ABOUT US

Lafayette Habilitation Center (LHC) is a 33 bed, private, not for profit organization funded by the state of Missouri. LHC operates under the direction of Focus on Residential Services, Inc. (FORS)

Focus on Residential Services, Inc. gained corporation status on March 2, 1982. FORS leased Lafayette Habilitation Center from VOCA, an Ohio based corporation, on October 24, 1985; then purchased the center in 1996. FORS has continuously operated the facility since 1982.

Members of the FORS Board of Directors are very compassionate about providing quality care for all individuals residing at Lafayette Habilitation Center and are very supportive of the employees caring for the individuals.

Lafayette Habilitation Center prides itself in their overall retention of employees. At the current time, over 46% of our employees have been employed by FORS for 10 or more years; with 30% having at least 15 years, and 16% having over 20 years with FORS.

In order to maintain a homelike environment, Lafayette Habilitation Center is divided into four suites with no more than 9 individuals on a suite. Each suite consists of semi-private bedrooms separated by a half bath, a shower room, utility room, and commons area/living room. Individuals are encouraged to decorate their bedroom area to make it uniquely theirs.

Lafayette Habilitation Center has multiple program areas including a therapy room, large program room, sensory room, and two semi-private outdoor patios. A whirlpool is available for our individual’s use.

Shannon has been cared for by several individuals and group home through the majority of her 38 years.  She has always just been “Shannon”.  No matter who tried to get her to open up or speak, she would smile and say cookie or juicy, but wouldn’t say much else.  She never looked as happy as I would have like to see her look.  Shannon became a member/resident of Lafayette Habilitation Center in November of 2017.  Management, caregivers, nurses, kitchen staff, and therapists of LHC have made a place for Shannon to live.  She’s not just a resident at LHC, she’s a family member.  Three years have already passed.  Shannon is speaking more than ever.  She enjoys her friends at LHC and the caregivers are taking great care of her.  I would recommend this facility to anyone else that loves and cares for the “Shannon” in their life.
